Integrated Learning

Integrated Learning at New Beginnings High School

New Beginnings High School uses an integrated learning model that combines direct instruction with personalized supports and flexible, technology-enhanced learning pathways. Built to support students navigating nontraditional educational journeys, this model provides a supportive pathway to graduation and long-term success. Its effectiveness has been demonstrated across diverse student populations, from students seeking to accelerate their learning to those who benefit from additional academic guidance.

Personalized Pathways to Graduation

Every student’s journey begins with an assessment to identify academic strengths and areas for growth. From there, we create a personalized learning plan aligned to state standards and graduation requirements. This approach allows students to progress at a pace that meets their needs while receiving targeted support along the way.

Instruction That Meets Students Where They Are

Our model combines high-quality instructional materials with direct, in-person teaching and ongoing academic support. Students learn through multiple modalities to engage with content, and demonstrate mastery—building confidence, ownership, and motivation.

Strong Literacy and Academic Interventions

A cornerstone of the NBHS experience is our intervention-based literacy program designed specifically for high school students who need accelerated skill development. Targeted interventions help students build the reading, writing, and critical-thinking skills necessary to meet grade-level expectations and succeed beyond high school.

Supportive, Student-Centered Learning Environment

Our experienced and dedicated staff hold high expectations while creating a respectful, caring environment where students feel valued and supported. Instruction is relevant, engaging, and connected to real-life interests—helping students see the purpose of their learning.

Flexible, Engaging Learning Experiences

Students can move through lessons and courses efficiently while revisiting content as needed to strengthen understanding. With access to instructors, technology-supported learning tools, and individualized guidance, students remain actively engaged in their education.

Preparing Students for Life Beyond the Classroom

Beyond academics, NBHS helps students develop resilience, responsibility, and a strong work ethic. Through consistent support and meaningful relationships, students gain the skills and confidence needed to graduate, pursue postsecondary opportunities, and contribute positively to their communities.

Social Services and Counseling

Experience and research show that in order for at-risk students and drop-out students to achieve success, social services are imperative. The staff at NBHS provide comprehensive support to connect students to school and community resources that help address and overcome the out-of-school systemic barriers to students’ learning.

Constant communication using a variety of technology-based tools ensures that we continue to address and support student needs. Helping youth re-engage in school requires not only the elimination of school “push out” practices, but aims to consolidate and coordinate student and learning supports—the counseling services, prevention and intervention programs, and community resources that tend to be fragmented and uncoordinated in many communities.

Through the use of technology-based and in-person emotional wellness counselors, NBHS provides comprehensive mental health services to support students.
